Alyssa Lampe becomes the first girl to qualify for a state final, beating Dodgeville sophomore Grant Sutter, 9-7, Friday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The Tomahawk wrestling phenomenon of Anthony and Alyssa Lampe became the first
ever brother-sister duo to qualify for the WIAA state wrestling championship
after third and second place finishes, respectively, at the Division 2
Osseo-Fairchild Sectional Saturday.
Alyssa, the state's first girl to qualify for state in 2004, earned her second
straight ticket to Madison after going 4-1 at 103 pounds, pinning Mike Brunner,
Ellsworth, in 3:23 to pick up the third and final state seat in her weight
class. Anthony went 3-1 Saturday, pinning Mike Bump of Amery in 1:17.

DIVISION 2 TOMAHAWK REGIONAL - Coming up with four overall
champions, the
Medford Raiders easily won the this regional meet with 211.5 points.
Abbotsford/Colby was next at 155.5 with Loyal/Greenwood third at 154 and
Wittenberg-Birnamwood fourth at 153. Phillips took fifth at 148.5 with
Mosinee sixth at 144 and Tomahawk seventh at 127.
Ben Hierlmeier (103), Donny Storck (145), Lee Storck (152) and Joe Poehls
(275) all had firsts for the Raiders. Nick Storck also advanced at 140 with
a second.
Posting firsts for Phillips were Phillip Brown at 125 and Sawyer Desotelle
at 140. Moving on with seconds were Fred Freeman at 112 and Randy Loewe at
135.
Tomahawk's Anthony Lampe was first at 119 while Alyssa Lampe, Dan Silvernale
and Jesse Hanneman all took seconds at 103, 171 and 189 respectively.
A couple of firsts happened at the Lumberjack tourney. Tomahawk's Alyssa Lampe
(103 lbs) was the first girl to ever win a conference tournament in the state.
Lampe, along with her brother, Anthony Lampe (119 lbs.) also share the
distinction of being the first brother and sister to win individual titles in a
conference championship.
The Hatchet wrestlers placed fourth at the conference tourney.
The
big story was that Tomahawk's Alyssa Lampe became the first female ever to
win a league championship, and her older brother, Anthony, won his third LJC
tile with a 4-0 record.
